Protest Badges
Data Stories
The Old Market Square is a historical and political hub, where various societal movements have found their voice through protests. For this project, I conducted extensive research to document and analyze the protests that have taken place there over the last decade. By studying the themes, causes, and demographics of these movements, I sought to understand the pulse of the city and the issues that drive its residents to gather in this central space.
I categorized the protests into four distinct themes—Environmental, Economic, Political, and Social—using data from news articles, social media posts, and public records. This research helped me identify key trends and powerful slogans that became the foundation of the visual identity I created.
Brief:
Research and gather data about the Old Market Square, interpreting and analyzing the events that have taken place there. Use graphic design to bring these findings to life.
Concept:
I focused on the theme of 'protests,' documenting significant protests that have occurred in the Old Market Square over the past decade. These protests were categorized into four themes—Environmental, Economic, Political, and Social—each assigned its own distinct color to reflect the diverse issues being raised.
Solution:
To visually communicate these movements, I designed a series of protest badges, each featuring a powerful slogan from one of the protests. The badges were square-shaped to symbolize the central location of the Old Market Square, tying the design back to its physical space. Each badge represents a category, offering a snapshot of the protest culture that has shaped the square's history over the years.
